Our fall pre-season practices will begin Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Washington Soccer Fields, 1-3 p.m.. To register, please download and complete the Fall 2014 registration form (even if you have already turned in a form for spring training) and submit the form and the fee to Mrs. Jodi Drilak.
Each player should bring a ball, shin guards, and a drink bottle. For safety reasons, athletes are not permitted to practice or play games without shin guards. Jewelry, hats, sunglasses and bandanas are dangerous in soccer and are forbidden at practice and on the field of play.
A registration form is available at the Registrations and Information page.
HEAD INJURY AWARENESS: A growing awareness among coaches and athletes for the risks of head injuries has led a number of athletic associations to require athletes to receive baseline testing and head injury awareness education prior to participation in practices or games. While we do urge our players to take advantage of the many free or discounted baseline testing programs available throughout western PA, we do not make testing a prerequisite to playing. Free or low-fee testing is available via UPMC Sports Medicine Heads Up program, underwritten by the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation; information regarding the testing dates and locations is posted at the News and Announements page. We do encourage parents (and athletes if possible) to attend an education session or watch a video on head injuries/concussions at the UPMC sports medicine website. More information is available at the Registrations and Information page.
VOLUNTEERS: Help is always needed for the concession stand before and during games and is always appreciated. We offer a concession stand for all home games and wish to provide baked goods or snacks beyond our regular inventory of drinks, bagged chips and candy. We have a Senior Night each year and will need volunteers to coordinate that event. We also plan on our annual end-of-season celebration in late October and will need volunteers for that activity as well. Thank you for considering offering your time, efforts and talents to the Hornets for these events. More info will be made available at practices and any forms will be posted to the Registrations and Information page.
UNIFORMS: Green jerseys, black shorts and socks are the official colors for both teams. We will provide the jerseys, but we require players to be attired in the appropriate shorts and socks for games. We also encourage all players to have soccer cleats. (These do not have a stud on the toe like baseball cleats.)
