Practices and Games
Practices take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 1-3 p.m. at the Washington Soccer Fields. (Directions below.) Go here for the Fall 2016 Practice and Game Schedule (Note that some dates are tentative.). *Extremely hot temps may require a later start time for practices.
Eligibility
All homeschoolers, boys and girls, grades 5 through 12, who are at least 10 by September 1, are eligible to play. (Depending on the number of players that sign up, players in grade 5 may get limited game time.)
We encourage all players to take advantage of the free baseline testing for head injuries made available through UPMC Sports Medicine/Concussion program.
What to Bring
For practices: Each player should bring a ball, shin guards and a drink bottle. For safety reasons you will not be permitted to practice or play games without shin guards. Jewelry, hats, sunglasses and bandannas are dangerous in soccer and are not permitted at practice and on the field of play.
For games: We will require players to have ready: Green or white jersey (we provide the jerseys), black shorts, black socks. We also encourage all players to have soccer cleats. (These do not have a stud on the toe like baseball cleats.)
Fall Fees
The fee for fall participation is $100 for the first player from a family, $90 for the second player in family, and $80 for each additional player from same family.
These fees apply to both high school and middle school players. You may pay the fee all at once or half by the first practice (Aug. 15) and the final half by Sept. 16. Please make checks payable to Hornets Soccer.
How YOU can support your Hornets!
We operate a concession stand to provide treats for our fans but also to raise funds for the team party at the end of the season. All families are required to man the concession stand during the season (how often depends upon how many players we have) and to donate items for sale. We are looking for volunteers who will help in coordinating the Concession Stand (monitoring inventory needs, making purchases, setting up and breaking down, and putting together the volunteer schedule). In addition, we will need volunteers to coordinate the Senior Recognition event (acquiring flowers, cake, drinks, etc.) and the end-of-season party. The registration form provides a place where you can sign up to help. Thank you!
Also, we will again be able to host a Spirit Night at the Washington Chick-fil-A on Thursday evening, August 6. More information will be posted at the website and sent to the email list as it comes available. This fundraiser is intended to help us cover the cost of home game jerseys. You can help by attending and inviting friends and family!
Feel free to share this info with other homeschoolers -- even better, give them the link to the website, where they can learn more about schedules, registration, volunteer opportunities, concussion awareness, etc.
